Pacific Organic & Ethical Trade Community

Posted On: June 8, 2016

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set the UN development agenda for the next 15 years.

Thee will be key in uniting efforts, from global to local levels in both the public and private sector, to eradicate poverty and hunger, to achieve equitable and sustained economic growth and sustainable development, to protect the environment, and to promote peaceful and inclusive societies where no one is left behind. The goals and targets contain important messages and challenges for developed and developing countries, including the Pacific Island countries and territories.

The goals also have clear links to the 5 Pacific Principles of Organic Agriculture: Health, Ecology, Fairness, Care and Culture and Traditions. Organic farmers know that if implemented in a truly sustainable manner, organics offers viable solutions to many of the problems that the SDGs aim to tackle.

The organic community is keen to play its role in meeting the goals and in helping communities, governments and development partners understand the contribution that organics can make.
